My successes and failures of getting a VPN running reliably at home has made me ponder whether content should be free.
It seems to me that ‘content’ should be free. I base this on two premises, which is still short of the three required to prove a premise true.
First, that which is ‘free’ should be taken in the sense of freedom from restriction or control. The first premise may not require a proof.
Second, that which is ‘free’ should be taken in the sense of not having to pay for it. I will prove this second premise as follows:
If you have to pay for it, then the premise has not been proved. So we will assume that content is ‘free’ in this sense.
It then follows that it should be free, because otherwise you are being restricted or controlled and also have to pay for it. Therefore content should be free.
It is also good to remember that freedom of speech and expression is, in fact, a human right. This may mean the content should be free.
