Embracing Boredom

We all get bored. And we all have our routines when we are bored. For me, it’s all about doom-scrolling, which is a habit I’d like to stop.

I think we can safely say that ‘boredom’ is a feeling. The act of experiencing it, to me at least, feels like the occurrence of an emotion. It seems to have a similar intensity and duration as other emotions.

Something that is interesting to note is whether boredom has a physical component. I believe it does, as the act of getting bored necessitates some sort of bodily change. For example, you are feeling sleepy and then suddenly get bored and start zoning out.

It is also interesting to note that boredom has a psychological component. Boredom can be triggered by an event or a situation, and I would say it was caused by the way you think about said event.

For example, if you are bored at work, it is because you have a negative mental attitude towards your job. You are thinking of the tasks as dull and repetitive.

All in all, it seems that boredom has a place and value. It’s ok to be bored. Embrace it!
